Nick "The Ghost" Gonzalez Talks Fleshlight Fights

With today's launch of FleshlightFights King of Kombat 7: Judgment Day, Nick "The Ghost" Gonzalez talks about what motivates him, his ties with Austin, and proceeds to get us ready for action.

King of Kombat 7 is the first Fleshlight sponsored MMA event. Had you heard of Fleshlight prior to the fight?

Actually, a friend of mine has one. I really didn’t think about it much till I started to see how popular it was.

Some MMA blogs are surprised that Fleshlight is getting into the MMA scene. Do you think Fleshlight fits in?

MMA viewers are a bunch of young testosterone filled men, making it a target audience. It fits in the same way the really hot ring girls do. I think this will help bring light to the Fleshlight in a non-discreet way.

You are a very proud Austin, Texas native. How much do you think being from Austin has shaped you to be who you are?

I think I’m a reflection of the people here. I grew up in South Austin deep in the heart of 78704. Growing up, I hit a phase were I got lost, did a bit of time, and didn’t really have any direction. When I got out, I redirected myself. I always remember to never forget where I came from or where I was at one point of my life.

Fighters must maintain a great regimen to stay in top fighting form. What are some of the things you do to stay at the top of your game?

I really enjoy running. The last couple of years I’ve also got into kettle bells. One of my favorite things to do is hit a tractor tire with a sledge hammer. I also work with a few trainers in town that help to push me.

King of Kombat goes On Demand Monday, September 21st at How did you feel about the fight and your opponent?

I was excited about it. I was coming off two losses, so to be thrown into the fire to take on a champion is a challenge alone. Dustin is a great fighter and a very slick submission guy, which is the polar opposite of me.

Have you fought Dustin “The Beast” Neace before?

No, but I did see him win the KOK Featherweight Title though. He pulled out a SMOOTH knee bar. I was like, "Damn, that was cool!" He’s experienced and has a lot of wins.

You also got to train and referee some ladies for FleshLube Wrestling. Were you surprised how competitive they were?

I was very impressed. It was a lot better than I thought it would be and two of the girls actually pulled off submissions, making it even more impressive.

What part of your fighting career are you most proud of to date?

There are so many. Being crowned a champion multiple times, fighting on Pay-Per-View, and being successful in boxing and kickboxing as well. I’d have to say a major part of my career was fighting in the K-1 World Max in ‘06 against TATSUJI, who beat me in a decision. It was big to me because I was the only American since Duane Ludwing in 2003 to fight for K-1. There still hasn’t been an American back since me. That was a big mark in my career and a boost to my confidence level. K-1 fighters are regarded as the best kick boxers in the world, and I was put in to that mix.

Are there any big projects or fights that are in the works?

I’d like to fight two more times before the end of the year. My managers are working on it and I just have to get ready for what comes next.

Finally, what can fans expect to see by watching King of Kombat 7 On Demand?

An action packed kick-ass night of fighting!
